Local authority sign up to around the clock protection for lone working staff

A Midlands based council is the latest organisation to sign up to an ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) that has been set up to offer 24 hour protection to staff who work on their own or are exposed to risk. Sandwell Council has signed up to around the clock cover for their more vulnerable personnel.

The system offers protection to staff if they fail to return from an appointment. The alarm is set off if a member of staff, who is vulnerable, fails to check in or directly raises an alarm, which then triggers an alert at a fully staffed response centre in Leicester. The ARC is based at the offices of unified communications company Voice Connect, who developed the technology behind the system.

Voice Connect’s ARC is the latest in a long line of protection products offered to lone working staff by the company who first created a product to help lone workers almost a decade ago. Since then, their systems have proven popular with NHS trusts, utility companies, housing trusts and councils.
Until now, any alert raised by the system had to be dealt with by the company who operated the system. However, Voice Connect is able to offer their own 24 hour centre to handle any incidents. Sandwell’s community staff have access to the system and the ARC.

“Many organisations have vulnerable staff working in situations where they need extra support. Sometimes this is because personnel operate outside of normal office hours, or sometimes it’s because they don’t have people around to support emergency situations,” explains Voice Connect’s MD, Stefan Olsberg. “Through the use of sophisticated software, combined with a state of the art alert system, we can help to protect these more vulnerable personnel. Their location can be monitored and checked, with help sent on its way within seconds.”
