Automated Repeat Prescription Ordering
Voice Connect’s Repeat prescription ordering solution is designed to reduce the pressure on busy practices whilst improving access to services for patients. The repeat prescription service enables patients to dial into the practice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and re order prescriptions without the need to contact reception. The service can be added to your Patient Partner solution as an additional module or as a standalone service for practices that haven’t deployed Patient Partner.

HOW DOES REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS WORK?
The patient dials into the practice on the normal published telephone number or a separate number if preferred, selects the ‘repeat prescription’ option from the automated menu, for example “For appointments press 1, for general enquiries press 2, to order a repeat prescription press 3.” Once the patient selects the repeat prescriptions option, they will be required to enter their unique PIN number.
Once the patient has logged into the service the patient will hear a menu offering their available prescriptions. Prescriptions requiring a review or are date restricted are listed on a separate menu. The patient simply listens to the prescriptions as they are read out and selects the prescriptions they need. The service then processes the patients request and then adds it as a task in the clinical database. The system will only allow the patient to order prescriptions that are available, a patient may need to see a clinician before they request a prescription. In this case if the practice has Patient Partner, they can be given the option to book an appointment without having to speak to the reception n team.
The final stage is a GP or Clinician signing off on the task as they would do with all repeat requests.

Repeat prescriptions can be deployed on any existing phone system or as part of a new telephony project. For practices just wanting to add the service without making any other changes to their current infrastructure, Voice Connect can provide a hosted solution and a new phone number for patients to ring into the service on. An alternative to this is for the practice to add an option on the Surgeries auto attendant (Phone Menu) and the patient is forwarded to the service.
For Practices that already have the Patient Partner appointment booking system in place, Repeat Prescriptions can be added very simply as an additional option off the existing telephone menu, this also has the additional benefit of enabling patients to quickly book an appointment if a prescription review is required.
